May Day Strike
Indivisible is joining with May Day Strong, labor groups, and other allies to flex our economic power in a massive day of nonviolent, economic disruption on May 1.
The billionaire class in this country is enabling Trump’s consolidation of power as they profit off the pillaging of our environment, the dismantling of our democracy, and the shredding of our social safety net.
But on May Day, we’re putting the oligarchs on notice and reminding them – in a language they understand – where the real power lies in this country: with the people, not a wannabe-king.
There are a number of ways you can take action, from refusing to shop, to walking out of work, to attending a demonstration. No matter how you choose to join, together we can harness our power as workers and consumers.
These are the local events we’re aware of:
-
Santa Fe
- Signs of Fascism is organizing two slow-walk events: 9am-10am at Home Depot, noon-1pm at Target. Learn more at mobilize.us
- Somos Un Pueblo Unido is marching to END mass deportation. 4:30 march, 6:00 rally. Learn more at Indivisible Santa Fe
-
Albuquerque
- Rally at the Civic Plaza, 3pm-7pm. Learn more at mobilize.us.
United We Dream Letters:
United We Dream is a youth-led immigrant action network. This winter they’ve been organizing a campaign to sending letters directly to people held in ICE detention.
Here is what they have to say:
“Right now, our communities are living in fear. ICE agents are detaining children like five year old Liam Ramos on his way home from preschool, while families in detention centers in Dilley, Texas are fighting back from within walls that should have never existed. We see racialized violence, the fear spreading, the families torn apart, and humanity stripped away.
And we are angry–this rage is the fire that fuels our resistance and resilience. But we know, when we face so much division and dehumanization–we cannot let ourselves be contaminated by hate. True power comes from how we channel that anger. We transform our fury into fierce love. Our grief into solidarity. Our despair into action. When we fight–we have to do it with love.
This is our moment to embody that truth. We are powered by love, not cages. While the administration and DHS, ICE & CBP spreads fear through detention and deportation, we must spread love through solidarity, human connection and dignity.
That’s why we’re calling on you–to gather your friends together and write letters to our immigrant neighbors in detention centers in the month of February. Turn your galentine’s dinner, movie night, meet at the library or weekly hangout into a powerful act of resistance and love. Write letters that tell them: we see you, we hear you, and we’re with you in this fight for dignity and freedom.”
The full letter-writing toolkit is here. It includes a sample letter you can read for inspiration.
Once you’ve written your letter, mail it to
United We Dream

They will ensure it gets delivered to a person held in ICE detention in the United States. For the detail oriented among us: we are well past their original campaign timeline of February, but I’ve been emailing with the organizers, and they are expecting letters from Los Alamos before the end of April, and told me they would distribute them.
